Deferment

What happens to a dream deferred:

It cracks, like dry skin stretched too tight
Haunts the dark corners of lonely nights
Breaks like the spine of an overused book
Tastes like ashes in all you cook
Sticks like fennel between your teeth
Aches hollowly of the incomplete
Blisters like feet on an endless road;
and yes, it explodes.
